״The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.״
All animals, wherever they may be, deserve safety and protection. It is our duty—as human beings—to provide that for them. This is the principle that guides me.
My name is Yoram Erez, founder and chairman of PTROA.
I am a reserve IDF major, hold a B.A. in Social Sciences and Criminology, and I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Green Criminology—with the intention of continuing to a Ph.D., publishing academic papers, and advancing research in the field of animal-related crime.
My journey began with a deep love for animals, and with a clear understanding that their suffering often remains outside the public and legal consciousness. When I realized how little research exists in this field—especially in understanding patterns of abuse, neglect, and criminal behavior toward animals—I made the decision to study, investigate, and build a knowledge base that would allow us to address these issues in depth and with effective tools.
The experience I gained in field operations, command, and intelligence—I chose to channel toward those who have no voice.
Over the years, I have worked with our organization’s teams in conflict zones, under difficult conditions, and sometimes at real personal risk—to rescue animals, provide urgent medical care, spay and neuter, distribute food, and reunite lost dogs and cats with their families.
I’ve seen firsthand how harsh the reality is.
Most people are only exposed to the tip of the iceberg when it comes to animal abuse. Beneath the surface lies an entire world of pain—illegal trafficking, dog fighting, unauthorized experiments, neglect in factory farms, poisonings, and mass killings of stray animals.
There is a massive gap between what the law says and what actually happens on the ground.
That gap is what led me to establish PTROA—a field-based organization that exposes the truth and bridges the divide between reality and the authorities’ ability to respond.
I believe that good intentions are not enough. Real change requires professional, well-planned, and well-documented action—grounded in knowledge, and led with compassion.
PTROA is the embodiment of this belief: a combination of care, determination, and strategic, focused work.
I truly believe that through professionalism, research, and a beating heart—we can create real change for animals, and make our society more just and humane.
